Then you’ll want to add in the rice. Make sure to mix everything completely so that every part of the rice gets coated with flavor and is broken up nicely.

Substitutions In This Recipe
The best thing about Kimchi Fried Rice is that it is totally customizable.
There are many ingredients you can use or replace with something else.
So lets take a look at just what things you can change in this recipe.
Meat: In this recipe we are using spam, but you can use any type of protein you want. For instance chicken, beef, pork, seafood all will work in this recipe.
Vegetables: In this recipe we are using onions, green onions, mushrooms and carrots as our source of veggies. But you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to. After all kimchi fried rice is just kimchi and rice. Anything else you add is just optional. If you want to add a certain vegetable to this dish, then you are free to do so.
Heat level: We are using gochujang for our spicy sauce, but if you want it even spicier, then you can use some gochugaru instead of gochujang. Mainly because adding too much gochujang will make it too salty.
Tips For Making This Dish
- If you are going to be using leftover rice and it has turned hard and clumpy, try to microwave it for a few seconds to soften things up before stir-frying it.
- Try to use well fermented kimchi as it tends to have more flavor.
How To Make The Dish Vegetarian
To make this dish vegetarian, simply leave out the spam and egg. Everything else is all vegetables so it should be perfectly fine for a vegetarian diet.
Storing Kimchi Fried Rice
Storing: I am usually able to store this in the refrigerator for around 3 to 4 days at most.
Reheating: You should be able to reheat this dish just fine by either the microwave or using the stove. Either way works.
Freezing: I have never tried freezing this as I usually always finish it, but it should be able to freeze just like any other foods you make.
