What Is A Spring Roll Wrapper?
A spring roll wrapper is basically a thin wrapper made out of certain types of flour and starch, and is commonly used to wrap certain foods.
If you still can’t picture what i’m saying, then here is a quick example.
Have you see a burrito before?
You know how burritos use a tortilla type wrap to wrap around certain ingredients? Well a spring roll wrapper works exactly the same way.
However when compared to a tortilla wrap, a spring roll wrap is much more thin and can’t hold as much items as a burrito.
What Can You Use This With?
In all honesty, this traditional spring roll wrapper is a very versatile ingredient.
It can be used to wrap almost anything you want.
For example, one of the most common uses for this type of spring roll wrapper is to make the popular “Taiwanese Burrito”, or in some other countries they may call it a “Popiah”.
Not only that, but you can also use this type of spring roll wrapper to make spring rolls too!
The possibilities are endless.
It’s basically just a wrap where you can use to wrap whatever ingredient you want and make it into either a small or large wrap.
Here is an example of a Taiwanese Burrito or “Popiah” as some may call it.

Making The Spring Roll Wrapper Mixture
Making the spring roll wrapper is a pretty simple task to do.
In order to make the spring roll wrapper, you’ll need to do the following:
Grab a large mixing bowl and mix together all of the ingredients with a fork. You want to keep mixing it until it starts to get elastic. This should take about 3 to 5 minutes of mixing.

After you see that it is starting to become elastic, stop mixing. Let it rest for about 10 to 20 minutes.

After you had let it rest, continue to mix the mixture again for a few more minutes. Then let it rest for another 10 to 20 minutes.
Repeat one last time with mixing the mixture around for a few more minutes. Then let it rest for 10 to 20 more minutes.
Once time is up, check on your mixture. It should be pretty elastic and smooth. In fact, when you mix it around, the sides should pull away from the bowl a little bit.
Making The Spring Roll Wrapper
Now it’s time to use your mixture that you have just made and turn it into a spring roll wrapper.
For this section, I will be showing you 2 different methods which you can use to make these wrappers.
Method 1: Wiping Method
First grab a non-stick pan and heat it up over medium heat. Then once it gets decently hot, turn the heat down to low.

Using your hands, grab a handful of the mixture and move it around in your hands. You want to play with the mixture for a bit so that you can get use to how it moves. Then once you are comfortable with the mixture, hold it and using your hand, use it to wipe in a circle motion around the pan to form a circle shape. Once you have made a nice circle shape, lift/grab the mixture away from the pan as the circle shape starts to cook.

If you see any open areas or uneven spots, use the mixture again and fill the spots in.
Let the wrapper cook for a bit. You’ll notice that the sides of the wrapper will start to dry up and starting to lift upwards.

Once the wrapper starts to lift upwards from all sides, it means the wrapper is done cooking. Slowly lift it and peel the wrapper from the pan. Then place the wrapper on a plate or something.

That is all!
Clean the pan with a paper tower to remove any crumbs and make it clean again.
Repeat the steps again until you have used up all of your mixture to make your wrappers.
Method 2: Brushing Method
This method is essentially the same as method 1, except that instead of using your hands, you’ll be using a paint brush.
So first thing you’ll need to do is to grab a non-stick pan and heat it up over medium heat. Then once it gets decently hot, turn the heat down to low.

After that, you’ll want to grab your paint brush and dip it into the mixture. Then immediately brush the pan with the paint brush in a circular fashion. Pretend like you are painting a circle shape.

Once you have painted a full circle, take the paint brush away from the pan and let the wrapper cook.

Using a napkin or paper towel, clean the pan from any crumbs.
Then repeat the steps until you have made all of your wrappers.
How To Keep/Store For Later Use
If you are wanting to store these traditional spring roll wrappers for future use, then you’ll be happy to know that these wrappers will keep perfectly well for quite some time.
For instance, if you are wanting to save these wrappers for use in the next few days, then all you’ll need to do is simply wrap them up and store them in the fridge. They should keep perfectly well for 4 to 5 days.
If you are wanting to store them for longer periods of time, then you can keep them in the freezer. Just make sure to wrap them up nicely before storing them into the freezer. They should keep well for up to 3 months.
Once you are ready to use these wrappers again, simply place them back onto a skillet to heat up. This will bring back their elasticity and softness that you desire.
